The Senate has set up a committee to carryout a comprehensive investigation into how funds meant for the revamping of the power sector was spent under the administration of former presidents Gooodluck Jonathan and Olusegun #Obasanjo.
While this move was meant to sent down shivers in the spine of Obasanjo and give the corruption crusade of this current administration a boost, signals coming from the camp of Obasanjo show the former #president does not consider the #probe as worthy of his attention.
A credible source close to Obasanjo who spoke to LEADERSHIP Weekend, dismissed the resolution of the Senate with a wave of hand when he was asked to react to the decision.
“Baba (Obasanjo) has travelled out of the country but if I may let you know, the senate resolution is a none issue to us. Asking us to react to the so called resolution “is endorsing their selfish and unpatriotic action that would reverse the gains already recorded in the sector.”

The source recalled how the National Assembly under the watch of the late President Yar A’dua did the same thing which delayed the implementation of the National Integrated Power Project (NIPP) and warned the lawmakers against denying the populace the power supply.
“You remember the National Assembly did the same thing during the Presidency of the late President, Yar A’dua. If I may ask, what was the outcome? Did they find anything against Obasanjo? The probe instead led to an extra cost to return to the project after they had discovered the futility of the probe.
“Remember former governor of Cross #Rivers #state, Liyel Imoke and the late Segun Agagu, appeared before the Public Hearing Committee set up, they warned them against delaying the NIPP in vain. It was after the probe that some of the machineries were returned to their manufacturers because they could not be installed after six months on ground. I hope President (Muhammadu) #Buhari would not allow the National Assembly to use him for selfish reasons.”
