The two major political parties in the country, #All Progressives Congress and the #Peoples Democratic Party, have unanimously endorsed Senator Ahmed Lawan to become the #president of the senate in the #8th Assembly.
The North-East geo-political zone contributed immensely towards the success of President-elect Muhammadu #Buhari at the polls with more than 2.5 million votes.
Lawan, who will be returning to the senate for his third term in office having being in the house since 2007, will represent Yobe-North senatorial district in the 8th Senate.

Lawan has also been accepted by those close to President-elect Muhammadu Buhari, because he was recognized among those who led Buhari’s presidential campaign in the then All #Nigeria Peoples Party in 2007 in Yobe #State.
In order for the senate president not to work against APC in the 8th Assembly, a reliable source from the APC confided in The PUNCH: “the catch there is that if the APC members in the Senate do not support Lawan and he wins the Senate presidency with bloc votes from the PDP and his friends in the North-East, he will be loyal to the PDP.”
“He may sideline us just as the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu #Tambuwal, attributed his victory to the APC back in 2011 even though he was a member of the PDP.”
With both political parties endorsing Lawan ahead of time, the June 2015 8th Assembly inauguration, and subsequent election of who occupies the number three position in the country may just be mere formalities.
